We are pleased to announce that Mr. Hitoshi Matsubara, Professor at Kyoto Tachibana University — a leading figure in artificial intelligence and robotics research and the former President of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence — has been appointed as Advisor to the firm, effective February 1, 2026.
Background and Outlook on the Advisor Appointment
Mr. Matsubara is one of the leading AI researchers who has led research from both the artificial intelligence and robotics perspectives over many years, with the goal of realizing "a robot with a mind like a human's." He has held key positions including President of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence and has shared the possibilities and challenges of AI not only within the research community but with society at large. Starting his artificial intelligence research under the vision of "building Astro Boy," he advanced a cognitive science approach grounded in human cognitive models for computer Shogi — with collaboration from Shogi player Mr. Yoshiharu Habu and others — and at an early stage predicted that a computer would beat a Shogi grandmaster "in 2015." He is a researcher who has long examined the relationship between human and machine intelligence. He also proposed the founding of "RoboCup," which aims to realize autonomous soccer robot teams, and it continues to operate to this day. Tackling the challenge of how AI in the real world can possess human-like thinking and embodiment, Mr. Matsubara can be called a pioneer who has brought "a robot with a mind like a human's" closer to reality.
This appointment of Mr. Matsubara as Advisor marks a step toward leveraging the insights he has accumulated through research on AI and embodied intelligence — further expanding enableX's activities in individualized AI, which reproduces and applies experts' know-how, experience, and intuition, and in organizational-knowledge AI for areas such as marketing, sales, HR, and general affairs — while applying Physical AI and Neuro AI, which are tied to real-world action, body, and sensibility, across various public, private, and academic domains.
